b|u|s-Award 2025 Tansania

by Marieke Behrens

In Arusha, at the heart of Tanzania, vision and determination came together: for the fifth time, the renowned b|u|s-Award was presented – a stage for people who are shaping the agriculture of tomorrow with courage, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit. The competition, organized by the Tanzania Horticultural Association (TAHA), honored ten outstanding ideas that demonstrate how local innovations can have a lasting impact.

The journey was demanding: former participants of the b|u|s training programs had the opportunity to submit and refine their business ideas through a multi-stage application process. Finally, ten finalists presented their visions in Arusha. The event was kindly supported by the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection of Lower Saxony, Germany. Thanks to their support, a Tanzanian jury on site and a German jury joining digitally were able to collaborate, bringing diverse perspectives and expertise into the evaluations.

The award winners of 2025 are:

  • Issa Shamte – for developing an organic fertilizer that strengthens soils and is environmentally friendly.
  • Hussein Ahmada – for using black soldier flies as a sustainable protein source and for waste recycling.
  • Amina Seif Moh’d – for developing nutrient-rich, medicinal supplements from pumpkin.
  • Winsley Simon – for creating a digital food marketplace that provides farmers with more efficient distribution channels.
  • Musa Jacob – for inventing a self-made wheelbarrow for fertilization – simple technology with great impact.

These five entrepreneurs now have the chance to realize their business ideas with financial support. But for the other five nominees, the journey does not end here. They are welcomed into the alumni network of finalists, where they can learn from others, exchange challenges and solutions, and continue refining their ideas.
