Julian has been passionate about international development since his voluntary social year in South Africa in 2009. He pursued this interest and studied African Studies and Peace and Conflict Studies. Prior to joining AHA, Julian worked as a research assistant at the University of Bremen from 2019 to 2022 at the Chair of International Relations. Various internships, language and study visits led him again to South Africa, but also to Tanzania, Kenya, Madagascar and Uganda. In addition to European languages such as English, French and Italian, Julian also speaks Kiswahili. In Julian’s scientific work, the agricultural sector and especially smallholder farmers in the Global South play a central role in development. Therefore, the AHA was particularly attractive to Julian as an employer. At AHA, Julian currently oversees the country of Burkina Faso.
